On the 22 March 2011, Conservative MP Andrea Leadson applied for leave to bring in a Bill creating a new offence of causing death or serious injury by dangerous or reckless cycling.
The Bill will make provisions regarding minimum sentencing and fines for those convicted of the new cycling offence . If adopted the Bill will create new offences which will be very specific to cyclists. A motion was passed for a second reading to take place by way of a Ten Minute Rule Bill in November 2011. When the Ten Minute Rule Bill is read in November we may see more detail.
