Keep the Chief Coroner

Ken Clark is proposing to cut proposals to appoint a Chief Coroner. A CC would be an independent voice for bereaved families. He or she could ensure that coroners received training in issues particular to Armed Forces deaths - which are very complicated and outside the normal experience of most coroners - and make sure that families were treated with the sensitivity they deserve. The Public Bodies Bill includes the Chief Coroner in the offices to be cut. The Royal British Legion is campaigning to persuade Ken Clarke to leave it out. We support the RBL.
