Hairdressing industry needs regulating

As a personal injury solicitor with an interest in cases involving injuries from cosmetic surgery, beauty and hair salon treatments, I was interested to see an interview on breakfast news this week, involving a young lady who had received compensation from a successful claim against her hairdresser who negligently carried out a treatment which left her with severe injuries to her scalp and significant damage to her hair. I am presently acting for a client who suffered a severe allergic reaction due to the failure of her hair stylist carrying out a simple patch test. As a result my client suffered significant symptoms to her scalp, face and her hair, just shortly before her wedding day.

Unfortunately, the hairdressing industry is not regulated and hairdressers are not state-registered. I have been in contact with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), of which I am a member, who are campaigning for this to change, as the UK hairdressing industry is completely unregulated and the public needs to be protected from potentially unsafe practices and products that can cause significant harm.

If you have suffered an injury of this type and would like advice on this, please  contact me by email or call me on 020 7288 4836
