Football - Masters Rematch!

Thanks to the tactical and managerial genius of…. (I’m far too modest to say..), and a combination of silky smooth Messi-esque attacking skills and dogged defending the BB/BBK/Igloo squad brought home the silverware from the annual match against Masters Legal Costs Services!
An array of step-overs; dummies, back heels, and 40 yard screamers into the top corner made this a treat for our single supporter (and sponge boy) Andy Rogers. I’m sure he’ll agree that it was the sort of one touch pass and move football that has made Arsenal the most entertaining team to watch in England… and possibly the World
Ok ok…
First and most importantly – WE WON!
At times it wasn’t pretty, and I’m not talking about the team photo… but we got the job done
We started with 10 men and no recognised keeper against their full squad and they could play a bit, to be fair. Despite some fantastic last ditched tackles from Lee and Glen and Olly shackling their speedy right winger we finally buckled under the pressure and went 1 nil down as their left winger aka ‘The Ferret’ whipped one in past our makeshift goalie.
We fought back in style and started applying some of our own pressure. Our breakthrough finally came after a stunning run up the wing by our right back (and player manager, who’s still being modest ) unselfishly chose not to shoot and instead placed the perfect pass into our striker’s (Marco) feet. It was the sort of pass that one would refer to as “on a plate” as Marco was 3 yards out from goal with only the keeper to beat.
I’m not sure why he decided to kick the floor first, but eventually the scuffed shot managed to trickle through the keepers legs and flailing arms into the back of the net, well in fact I’m not sure it reached that far such was the power, but it crossed the line and was certainly a goal! At first I did think Marco had meant a pass back but soon realised he was at the wrong end. Anyway, as any striker will tell you, they all count!
After the short halftime break we started the 2nd half even on goals and now even on players too after our Goalie, Andy ‘the Cat’ Grant arrived.
The team were bolstered by the arrival and we soon got into a good flow of attacking football. Our engine-room boys Marc and Joe were putting in the leg work, Marc snapping at their heels and Joe (man of the match) Burdon working the ball around like a magician; Ryan got the chance to push further forward and Vince was the Rock, well he didn’t move much anyway …
Marc’s hard work finally paid off with a fantastic brace of goals; the first of which showed the sort of composure rarely if ever seen at White Hart Lane as he slotted it into the bottom corner. The team were buzzing, we were 3-1 up, completely shattered, but with 20 mins still to play
After that it was backs to the wall as we fought to keep the lead. The final score was 3-2 after a late effort managed to leak past the Cat; however it mattered little because as the final whistle went and the crowd cheered our victory, we knew we’d put in a fantastic team performance and the beers which were to come had been well earned…
As you see us hobbling around like pensioners please feel free to pat us on the back - well done to the boys !
