A businessman, James Allen, 49, suffered multiple injuries which included broken ribs, a collapsed lung, injury to his jaw and bruising to his chest and back at a Virgin Active gym. The accident happened after an inflatable ball burst and heavy weights fell on his chest. The gym was fined £10,000 for the injuries caused to the businessman. Mr Allen was sitting on an inflatable stability ball to lift bar weights as part of his routine when he heard a loud ‘bang’ noise. He was placed in a neck brace and taken to hospital. Virgin Active accepted responsibility for the "deficiencies" in its risk assessment and for breaching its duty of care to Mr Allen under the Health and Safety Act. If you have had an accident in the last 3 years and it wasn’t your fault you may be entitled to a compensation award. For further information please contact our specialist team for further advice.
