Dye allergy causes coma

I have been blogging about this for some time now, and yet again, I see another story in the newspaper about a mother of two being left in a coma after an allergic reaction to hair dye. Julie McCabe is currently on life-support machine after using a home hair-colour kit. She started to suffer breathing difficulties, and on her way to hospital, her heart stopped. As a result, Mrs McCabe has sadly suffered damage to her brain. Her family have been told that she will never be the same again. They have been at her bedside ever since. It is believed that the cause of this reaction is a chemical called p-Phenylenediamine (PPD). PPD is used in permanent hair dye to colour light or grey hair a darker shade. Although it had been banned in several European countries, it is now permitted for use in hair dye under EU law. Mrs McCabe's family are campaigning for a change in the law. I, too, have been involved campaigning with the Associate for Personal Injury Lawyers for a change in the law. This is clearly unacceptable and something must be done to protect the public from such products that can cause significant harm.
