I was asked by the Spinal Injuries Association to attend this reception hosted by the Speaker of the House of Commons on behalf of those with spinal cord injuries. This was an invaluable opportunity to meet those who make decisions on our behalf and explain to various MPs how someones life is affected when they sustain a catastrophic injury and the compensation claim process they might choose to pursue. Solicitors who bring personal injury claims for catastrophic injuries are all too aware of the high costs involved in putting the Claimant back in the position they would have been in had they not sustained their injury. Unfortunately not everyone who sustains an injury can bring a claim and it is important that the government does all it can to help those continue to live their life to the standard they had been living prior to their accident. By discussing key issues with the MPs it is hoped they will pass legislation which continues to improve our quality of life.
