Cycle Parking and the Boris Bike

The cycle hire scheme has been running for a number of months now, and it has clearly been a great success. The demand for Boris Bikes often outstrips the number of bicycles available and there are around 20,000 cycle hire journeys per day. There are now plans to invest more money into cycle scheme bikes and parking. However, the LCC have started the Cycle Parking 4 London campaign to address the massive shortage in the number of cycle stands for non-Boris Bikes, and it will only be getting worse. For instance, the new Shard skyscraper near London Bridge will have just 250 cycle parking spaces for around 6,500 potential workers, which will clearly not be sufficient. The LCC are pushing for 100,000 new cycle stands across London to help with the current shortage, and I wish them well in their campaign.
