Compensation culture killing jobs?

I read yesterday that Lord Young of Graffham blames the compensation culture for increasing unemployment. He suggests that “ambulance chasing” lawyers incite people to bring work accident claims and law firms bring work accident claims that will not win in court; they simply send a few letters and then get paid off by the other side. This is a ridiculous suggestion. I find his comments insulting to our clients and to my colleagues who work tirelessly fighting for the rights of injured people. He is conducting a review of health and safety laws and will announce a range of proposals next month which are due to become government policy which is rather scary.
