Claims farmers cold-calling "potential" claimants

October 15, 2009

This week my father received a call from National Accident Helpline asking if he wished to make a personal injury claim. My father has never been injured in an accident and asked them what they were referring to. They were forced to admit that they weren't actually calling in relation to any specific incident, but were just letting him know that, if he had been in an accident, he could make a claim for compensation. They also said that he had to claim within 2 years of the date of the accident, which either means that they have no idea of the law relating to limitation, or they are lying in order to scare people into claiming. They ended the call when asked where they got my father's telephone number from. These companies are fuelling the perception of a "compensation culture" and are taking the focus away from genuine claimants in need of honest, reputable advice and assistance in personal injury cases.
