Changes in funding for civil cases will restrict access to justice

Personal Injury solicitors all over the country are waiting to see what changes the government will make to funding for civil cases. The Lord Chancellor, Kenneth Clarke announced plans in the House of Commons this week to remove all legal aid funding for personal injury claims, suggesting that the costs of litigation could be found from alternative means, including no win, no fee. He also proposes that claimants pay towards their own fees if they win but will increase the award for general damages by 10%. As every personal injury solicitor knows damages are too low anyway so this is not adequate compensation. I’m sure that other personal injury solicitors will agree that these changes will restrict access to justice.
