The motorcycle Industry Association (MCI) has put out a message reminding riders that they can carry on biking through the winter as motorbikes are much safer these days thanks to better handling and safety aids such as ABS, better tyres and clothing which have all made a big difference. Even hard core motorcyclist concede that winter riding presents extra hazards which can cause motorcycle accidents, with slippery roads and reduced visibility. Research shows cold weather reduces concentration, impairing mental function and making it harder to complete complex tasks, so it's essential that riders have the right kit. The MCI is urging all road users - not just motorcyclists to act responsibly and has issued a few safety tips: use your lights before it gets dark, reduce your speed, check your tyres, check your mirrors frequently when tailgating give extra space. Motorcyclist can increase their visibility by wearing reflective clothing and invest in winter kit to aid concentration and prevent motorbike accidents
