More than 30 people were injured yesterday evening in a collision on the famous Big Dipper rollercoaster at Blackpool Pleasure Beach when two of its carriages collided. The crash left the victims trapped 20 feet above the ground. It is reported that injured passengers on the ride suffered broken bones, back injuries and whiplash and some were taken to hospital for treatment. Fire-fighters from the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service rescued the riders using a specialist rope team to help get people safely off the ride. While all other rides will remain open, the Big Dipper has been closed while the Health and Safety Executive investigate the cause of this accident.
