Armed forces job cuts “grotesque”

I was saddened to hear about the job cuts being made in the armed forces, described by MP’s as “grotesque”. Some 11,000 service personnel are being made redundant as part of government efforts to deal with the £38bn black hole in the defence budget. Over 40% of these redundancies have been compulsory, whereas civilian employees of the MoD have not been forced out in the same way.
Moreover, it appears that not enough is being done to retrain personnel. For many, the adjustment to ‘civvy street’ is not easy and will take time and effort. It can be difficult to find suitable jobs in the private sector, and the current economic climate is not making it easy for anyone.
For the majority of our injured clients, the decision has been made for them; they cannot continue to serve because of their injuries. Their options are even more limited, which is why it’s essential for us to investigate their claims and get full compensation for their injuries and future lost earnings, enabling them to provide for themselves and their dependants into the future.
