9 year old child suffers brain injury in hit and run accident

I have recently been instructed to act for a 9 year old boy who was the victim of a hit and run accident whilst crossing the road. The driver drove off leaving my client, a 9 year old child laying unconscious in the road. My client suffered a serious brain injury and is lucky to be alive. It was only a few months ago that a six year old boy, Owen Wightman was killed in a hit and run accident. I am just wondering what kind of person knocks a child, or anyone for that matter, over and drives off?
