The Department of Health has announced that £70 million in Government funding will be provided to NHS Primary Care Trusts during the 2010-11 financial year for "re-enablement" packages,. The packages will support 35,000 former hospital in-patients for six weeks while they adapt to life at home. Such support might include mobility adjustments to the home or daily visits. The NHS will take on responsibilities from April 2011 as regards patients' first 30 days after returning home.
