Election Victory for Bolt Burdon Kemp Partner

April 14, 2008

Jonathan Wheeler has been elected to the executive committee of the influential Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) it was announced at APIL’s national conference in Brighton last week. The Association’s 5,000 strong members nationally and internationally were balloted in the election. Jonathan said “I am very proud to have been elected to APIL’s executive, and look forward to furthering their campaigns to improve access to justice to all those who suffer injury in our society through no fault of their own”. Jonathan has campaigned in the past for Parliament to reform the limitation laws for child abuse victims, and received some assistance from the APIL lobbying team. “My election will further Bolt Burdon Kemp’s future campaigns for the benefit of all those we represent in the personal injury field”, Jonathan added.

Jonathan also addressed the Brighton conference with a report on the case of A v Hoare and related appeals, heard in the House of Lords in January. Jonathan represented two of the appellants in the ‘Lords, who had been abused by their school teacher. The change in the limitation laws that that case brought about will be of benefit to many adult survivors of abuse who previously would have been ‘out of time’ to bring a claim. Jonathan focussed on the impact that the judgment will have on other areas of personal injury and clinical negligence claims, underlining the wide ranging change in the law that has been achieved.
