Work accident claims "falling"
December 06, 2007
The number of work accident claims made in relation to accidents at work is falling in the UK, according to new figures.
Research carried out by the University of Warwick's School of Law has found that work accident claims for compensation taken to the courts have fallen since new regulations were brought into force in 2003.
The exercise was undertaken on behalf of the Health and Safety Executive and was designed to gauge the impact of the Management of Health and Safety at Work and Fire Precautions (Workplace) (Amendment) Regulations 2003.
These rules removed the civil liability exclusions contained in the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
While it had been expected that the changes could result in an increase in work accident claims for compensation, the study revealed that the opposite was true, with a noticeable decrease in work accident claims following accidents at work. More information about making a work accident claim.
