Scottish hospitals hit by bug
December 18, 2007
A mysterious "vomiting bug" has closed Scottish hospital wards - in a case which might lead to medical negligence compensation claims.
In total, 13 wards in four hospitals in the Glasgow have been shut due to the bug, the Press Association reports.
They include the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, Stobhill Hospital and the Victoria Infirmary in the city itself.
The situation is being investigated by the local health board - and if medical negligence is found as being a cause of patient sickness, compensation claims could be launched.
Infection control manager for the city's NHS Trust Tom Walsh said: "We continue to monitor this fluctuating situation closely, and we are doing all that we can to prevent the further spread of the virus.
"But because this type of infection is common in the community, we also have to rely on visitors and others for help too."
The hospitals affected have said that they are continuing to admit emergency patients.
