Money stolen by lawyer claimed back by LSC

January 04, 2008

The Legal Services Commission (LSC) - the arm of legal regulators the Law Society which addresses cases of solicitor negligence - has launched new proceedings against an Ealing lawyer.

Naveen Sagar, who practiced in Wembley, was jailed last month for his part in helping an armed gang of West London drug dealers.

He was found in court to have created stolen £21,000 in legal aid while defending the gang, through creating fake invoices.

Director at the LSC David Keegan, talking to the Ealing Times, commented: "There is zero tolerance for supplier fraud.

"We will always investigate fraud and we will always fight to get the money back."

To this end, reimbursement proceedings have been launched by the LSC.

A confiscation hearing will be held in April, the newspaper reports.
