Michael Lynn spotted in Brazil
December 24, 2007
On-the-run lawyer Michael Lynn, who went missing during his own solicitor negligence-related fraud trial after allegedly perpetrating a property scam, is in Brazil.
Mr Lynn, who stood accused of taking out multiple mortgages on clients' properties and pocketing the proceeds, has been spotted in the South American country, the Irish Independent reports.
The Dublin-based solicitor was last seen on December 10th - and leaves behind debts of around €80 million.
On his return, the solicitor is expected to be struck off his profession's register - standard policy in cases of solicitor negligence - regardless of the outcome of his High Court trial.
Late last week, Mr Lynn's clients suffered another blow when his insurers AIG announced that the lawyer's multi-million policies would not be paid out on through compensation claims.
This means that they can only claim against the solicitor from Ireland's Solicitors Compensation Fund - which offers a maximum compensation payout of £750,000.
Some clients say that they lost a seven-figure sum on property deals due to Mr Lynn's solicitor negligence, however.
