Laptops can toast your skin (and worse)

October 15, 2010

Doctors at Basel University warn that prolonged use of a laptop computer can cause a mottled skin condition known as "toasted skin syndrome". A number of such cases have been reported in medical journals in recent years. It is apparently generally harmless, although disfiguring, but in some circumstances could lead to cancer. A dermatologist in the USA says that when examined under a microscope, "toasted skin" looks like skin damaged by long-term sun exposure. The heat given off by a lap-top can also warm male genitals to the point where sperm production is affected.

This work injury disease used to be associated with workers whose jobs brought them into close contact with a powerful source of heat, such as bakers and glass-blowers.

People who believe that they may have been affected by "toasted skin syndrome" are advised to contact a specialist work accident claim solicitor to recover compensation. More information about making a claim for work accident compensation.
