Inquest hears of fatal doctor blunder
September 01, 2008
A man from the Philippines has told of his grief at a fatal doctor error, which killed his wife after she gave birth to their son.
The Wiltshire coroner, investigating the alleged medical negligence, heard that medical staff at Swindon's Great Western Hospital wrongly put in an epidural in Mayra Cabrera's arm rather than her back.
Her husband, Arnel, said that he only discovered that the 30-year-old's death was caused by a possible blunder a year after her 2004 death, following a police investigation into the incident.
He had previously been told that she had died of a rare complication.
Speaking to the inquest, Mr Cabrera said: " I was very angry I had been lied to for so long about how my wife had died.
"The person who gave Mayra that drug robbed me of my family."
The 38-year-old man added that he was suffering from depression due to the incident.
