Government tightens the screw on Legal Aid

The Government onslaught against legal aid escalated further today as the Justice Secretary, Jack Straw, has blamed “imaginative lawyers” for increasing the legal aid bill. Mr Straw has today proposed Government reforms to prevent prisoners bringing claims arising from what the Government regard as “trivial” complaints. The point at which the Government proposes that a claim should be regarded as trivial remains to be seen.
