Fork lift death sparks investigation

November 21, 2007

A 27-year-old Worcester resident has been killed in a horrific fork-lift accident while at work.

Adam Milichip was moving pallets from a lorry when his truck hit a bump while reversing and tipped over - trapping him between the pallets and the fork-lift.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and local police have launched an investigation into the incident, Worcester News reports.

"We would ask that anyone with information regarding this incident comes forward to help the police with their investigation," Mr Milichip's family said in a statement.

Earlier this year, the HSE warned on the dangers workers face when using forklift trucks, after a Berwick factory worker was left paralysed after being pinned to the ground by a vehicle's forks.

"Employers must ensure they assess the risks involved in any use of these vehicles and take appropriate steps to counter those risks," inspector Martin Baillie said.

"They must also provide adequate health and safety training for any employees operating forklift trucks."
