Bath woman sues hospital
January 04, 2008
A woman is to sue the Royal United Hospital in Bath for alleged medical negligence.
Julia Adam, who lives in nearby Melksham, said that doctors blundered during a 2004 gynaecological operation - accidentally burning her bowel.
Sent home by doctors following the operation, the 48-year-old complained of pain - and was rushed back to hospital, where the injury was discovered.
Ms Adam then required a further stay in intensive care, as surgeons worked to patch the injury up.
As a result, she has launched a £150,000 medical negligence compensation claim through a writ issued at the High Court, the Bath Chronicle reports.
Commenting on the compensation claim, medical director at the hospital John Waldron said: "Solicitors representing Mrs Adams have made allegations of clinical negligence.
"This ongoing claim remains under investigation and it would be inappropriate for the trust to make further comment at this stage."
Following the bowel injury, Ms Adam was forced to undergo further surgery in 2005, the writ adds.
