Uninsured motoring

Britain has one of the worst percentages of uninsured drivers in the world. In the UK 6% of drivers are uninsured with only Spain (10%) and America (15%) being worse. Ireland is equally as bad with 6% uninsured according to the Insurance Research Council.
Most drivers feel that the current fine of £200 is inadequate. Uninsured drivers cost the rest of us around £30 extra on our own insurance premuims every year. The problem is that the fine is less than 20% of the premium some of these drivers would have had to pay for insurance.
On the whole, Greater London is the worst offender. The MIB confirm that 13% of cars in the capital are uninsured, a figure that is only set to rise in the current economic climate.
