Trust the professionals

An investigation by the Serious Fraud Office and West Midlands Police has resulted in 8 professionals - 6 former solicitors, a surveyor and a property developer - being accused of defrauding several banks and building societies through the making of a series of false mortgage applications. The scam is said to have netted the fraudsters around £50 million. They will all face trial at Southwark Crown Court next year.

As claims against solicitors and surveyors continue to arise, there is a fine line between negligence and sheer fraud. The police, lenders and the Serious Fraud Office all working together will hopefully deter those professionals considering deliberately crossing the line, from legal to illegal, from doing so and avoid them abusing the positions of trust that they enjoy.
