To will or not to will?

This a question that many of us have to face eventually and let's face it, it's the sensible thing to do. However there are a large number of unregulated, uninsured will writers out there. If you use one of these companies to prepare your will and something goes wrong, there is very little that you can do. If you use a solicitor, they will be regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and will have appropriate insurance in place. There are so many things that can go wrong - such as inappropriate use of tax provisions resulting in hefty sums of Inheritance Tax to pay - which could have been avoided. Carrying out your homework before instructing someone to prepare such a vitally important document will help protect from future problems both for you and your loved ones. Things do go wrong from time to time (as we well know here in the professional negligence department) and at least by instructing a solicitor to prepare your will you do have a means of redress available.
