Speaking to the converted

Over the last couple of months I have been speaking to lawyers about running child abuse compensation claims, both at the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers' annual conference in Wales last month, and the Association of Child Abuse Lawyers' joint conference in London this week. Prior to that I was in Birmingham, crossing the divide, talking to a room of social services' risk managers. A busy round of speaker engagements is nevertheless a great way of meeting and educating solicitors new to the field or who just want to be brought up to date. The area is a fast changing one - the conference this week was subtitled "The Changing Landscape" - and my talk on limitation - or the time limits within which people have to sue - was packed with new cases that had been decided only since our last conference a year ago. Whilst it's a lot of work to prepare these lectures, it is so worthwhile, giving other solicitors the skills and knowledge to represent their clients effectively in this challenging area, and giving something back to the profession which trained me so well!
