Seatbelt dodgers face £60 fine

To encourage drivers to wear seatbelts, from the 1st July police can now make on-the-spot fines of £60 to those not wearing them. This is an important initiative as seatbelts reduce the risk of dying in a 30mph crash by 60%. Accidents can often occur on short journeys where people may not think it necessary to wear a safety belt. I wonder if the risk of a fine will make any difference in these cases.
