Raquel Siganporia becomes a Trustee for the Spinal Injuries Association

Over the last 3 years I have been involved with the Spinal Injuries Association on different levels, starting initially with being a volunteer for their fundraising events (chiefly an excuse to justify expensive dresses) to more recently becoming a Voluntary Peer Support Advisor.

I have always respected the work the SIA carries out and the effectiveness of their lobbying staff and members. The SIA provides invaluable support to those who are newly injured but also, guidance to those facing their second and third decade with a spinal cord injury and how to deal with the difference in lifestyle that this brings. Its aims have always been to support people in getting back their lifestyle, should they desire this, but most importantly, not to just stop there but to continue to thrive and achieve whatever they can conceive.

It was for this reason that I wanted to be part of propelling the SIA forward over the next year, so I decided to bite the bullet and put my name forward for Trustee. Dealing on a day to day basis with clients whose injuries affect their mobility, quality of life, access to care to name just a few areas which are affected, means I have acquired a vast knowledge of how lives can be affected and how with the right support and assistance, some semblance of normality can eventually be achieved.

Becoming a Trustee will enable this knowledge to be furthered and shared amongst the lawyers at Bolt Burdon Kemp to ensure catastrophic injuries continue to be dealt with proactively. I am very pleased to be co-opted a Trustee and I am excited about the new challenges ahead.
