Huntley to Claim Compensation
August 02, 2010
No doubt you will have seen the news over the weekend that Ian Huntley, the man convicted of murdering Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman is bringing a claim for compensation after his throat was slashed by an inmate in March. Huntley alleges that the prison breached their duty of care to him by allowing the attack to happen. The Ministry of Justice has vowed to vigorously defend Huntley's claim for compensation, which is reported to be nearly £100,000. There is outrage amongst campaigners who feel that if Huntley had the slightest remorse for what he had done he would drop the claim. It will be interesting to see how this is dealt with by the government - I believe it would be unjust to compensate this man for the injuries he has sustained.
