HGV related cycling accidents

Over the last week there have been 2 serious road accidents involving cyclists and HGVs in London alone, one of which resulted in the death of the cyclist. It is tragic that collisions of this type are a growing trend.
Whilst these accidents can be the fault of the driver for not using their mirrors, cyclists too can often be to blame for undertaking where it is unsafe to do so. The numbers of cyclists are increasing every day and if nothing is done this will mean an increase in the number of accidents. Whilst it is clearly positive that the government is encouraging people to start cycling, this cannot be at the expense of safety. Whether it is the driver to blame for the accident, or the cyclist, it is clear that a proper analysis of collisions and near misses is needed so that steps can be put in place to stop the accidents from occurring.
