A new unit at Imperial College London has been set up to study the effects that blast trauma has on the body, and is aimed at developing new techniques for treating victims of IEDs. Groundbreaking research is taking place using the ANUBIS blast simulator to show researchers how lower limbs are damaged by the force of a blast. Studies have shown that those injured by IEDs are choosing an amputation over attempts to save the limb, as recovery is faster and they can get back to work quicker. It is the same courage and determination to recover from injury that we see in our clients bringing military compensation claims. It is hoped that this research will lead to new treatments and better outcomes for injured military personnel.
