Government release shocking statistics for care leavers

The Care Leavers Association has called for urgent action on some shocking statistics released recently by the Department for Children, Schools and Families: 56% of young people in care leave school without even one GCSE or GNVQ, a 2% rise on last year's figures. Further, by the age of 19, over one third of care leavers are not in education, employment or training. Our care system is clearly failing those it is designed to help. Even though there is much talk about budget cuts at Westminster, the care of young, vulnerable children must be put high on the agenda - how can you put a price on the individual and social cost of a failed life?
