We have all heard stories of long running legal disputes and unduly protracted trial but this one certainly deserves a comment or two as it involves one of the longest awaited rulings in recent history.
It was the claim for breach of contract, deceit and negligent misrepresentation brought by BSkyB against EDS, who contracted to install a customer managements system for BSkyB. The whole enterprise ended up in a disaster – huge delay and installation costs which “ballooned” to nearly six times the estimated figure.
Delay and massive costs are both common features in this case; legal fees incurred so far amount to a staggering £70 million and despite the fact that the hearing in this case finished in July 08, there is still no sign of the judgment!
The presiding judge, Mr Justice Ramsey, is certainly doing his absolute best to hold everyone involved in Hitchcock-like suspense and his office has repeatedly told counsel that the judgment is imminent but so far the suspense continues.
