Working with parents and carers, BIBIC offers a valuable support system which offers time to talk, expert advice and practical help. The British Institute prescribes home treatment programmes for brain injured children which are carried out with the assistance of volunteer helpers. The Assistive Communication Service is an assessment centre for people who have difficulty communicating verbally, predominantly adults. The aim of assessment is to make recommendations and give advice on assistive communication systems appropriate to a particular person. Assessments are carried out by a specialist speech and language therapist and an occupational therapist when required. The assessments take place at the Centre or in the individual's own environment.

The Official Solicitor provides representation for minors (children under 18), or adults who are ‘protected persons’ in County Court or High Court proceedings in England and Wales, and in the Court of Protection. Protected persons are people who – by reason of a disability - are unable to instruct a solicitor themselves. The PGO provides financial protection services for clients who are not able to manage their financial affairs because of mental incapacity. The incapacity may be related to an illness suffered by some older people (e.g. dementia), or the result of an accident or negligence (brain injury) or of mental illness (schizophrenia). They support the families and advisers of the person who is incapable, often after someone has applied to the Court of Protection to manage the incapacitated person's financial affairs.
