Nursing Negligence Claims

Nurses play a vital role in providing care and treatment to patients. Sadly, however, sometimes the standard of the nursing care that is given is not what we expect.

We understand that the prospect of investigating a claim for medical negligence may be daunting, but our team of highly skilled professionals will deal with your case sensitively, giving you the support you need.

We can also help you by checking that you are receiving all state benefits you are due, and by identifying other support services available. We will obtain the opinion of an independent nurse on the treatment you received.

If you think you have been a victim of nursing negligence then please contact our team now. Your claim will usually be on a no-win, no-fee basis.

Standards of nursing care

If the standard of nursing care provided fell below an appropriate standard, and this leads to your further suffering, the nurse may be considered negligent, and you may be due compensation.

There are a number of types of nurses who provide care in different ways. District nurses often treat patients in their homes, whilst other types of nurses provide treatment in GP surgeries and in hospitals. Some nurses, such as neonatal and theatre nurses offer specialised care.

How does nursing negligence occur?

For example, nursing negligence claims may be made because of:

  • The failure of a nurse to correctly assess or monitor a patient’s condition
  • The failure to escalate worrying signs and changes in a patient’s condition to the relevant person
  • Mistakes when issuing medication
  • Errors written into medical records that affect later treatment
  • The incorrect use of equipment, or the use of incorrect equipment
  • The failure to follow a doctor’s instruction, or the failure to follow the instruction quickly enough

How is nursing negligence assessed?

Nurses are expected to deliver healthcare to an appropriate standard, for the type of nursing they provide. If they don’t do this, perhaps in one of the above examples, then this may be negligent.

Nursing negligence can lead to serious injuries and complications. At Bolt Burdon Kemp, we have secured compensation for patients who have suffered as a result of such negligence.

We understand that no amount of money can truly compensate for injuries that are suffered. However, financial compensation can go some way to help patients rebuild their lives.

The amount of compensation awarded will depend on the severity of the injuries, and the cost of any expenses incurred as a result of the negligence, such as private medical care or loss of earnings.

If you or a loved one has suffered as a result of substandard care, please contact our medical negligence team on 020 7288 4800 or complete our online medical negligence enquiry form.
