Stephen
Hill
Stephen has spent twelve years specialising in negligence cases and is now a partner in the firm's professional negligence department.
Practice
Stephen’s practice includes a broad range of claims against negligent and dishonest professionals. Most are solicitors and surveyors but he also acts for individuals and companies in claims against accountants.
Since qualification in 1999 Stephen has specialised in commercial litigation and the resolution of disputes relating to property and property development. He now acts almost exclusively for clients bringing cases against professionals and has a particular interest in claims arising from property matters.
Challenging solicitors’ fees
Stephen acts for individuals and businesses in claims against solicitors who have substantially overcharged their clients or failed to give accurate advice about the likely costs of the work they are undertaking.
Experience and notable cases
-
A city law firm billed their client over £200,000 for property work undertaken for the company. Stephen successfully reduced the bill by over £70,000.
-
The Claimant’s property portfolio turned out to be overvalued by as much as 80%. Stephen successfully pursued a case against the surveyor who valued the properties and the solicitor who failed to alert his client to inconsistencies in the pre contract information. The case was settled for a six figure sum at mediation.
-
A fatal road traffic collision left the Claimants with severe personal injuries and they instructed the Defendants to pursue a damages claim on their behalf. The claim was struck out by the court due to the solicitor’s failure to comply with the court’s directions. The Claimants instructed Stephen to pursue their former solicitors who settled the claim in full.
