Luke joined Bolt Burdon Kemp in July 1999 as a costs draftsman having worked freelance with a specialist costs drafting company in Buckinghamshire for the previous 5 years.
Luke had gained significant experience of recovering costs from Defendants and Insurers in personal injury and clinical negligence claims and so relished the opportunity to work in-house at one of London’s top personal injury firms.
Luke immediately got involved in conducting the majority of the firm’s costs hearings and by 2003 had become Head of Costs managing a small team specialising in maximising clients’ costs recovery.
Luke and his team were at the coal face of the Costs War which developed over ‘no win no fee’ agreements and in Luke’s own words “..to date we have never lost a battle...”. Luke of course knows that a new Costs War is never far off when you are dealing with the recovery of money from big insurance companies! However he is confident that through the new procedures he has implemented and the extensive internal training he offers, Bolt Burdon Kemp will continue to remain ahead of the game.
Luke’s work isn’t only limited to recovering costs for client’s of Bolt Burdon Kemp; Luke has contributed to training programmes produced by Legal Network TV and regularly receives agency work from firms of solicitors throughout the rest of the country due to his proximity to and vast experience at the Supreme Court Costs Office in London.
Luke was extremely proud to become the first Non-Lawyer Partner at Bolt Burdon Kemp in April 2009 and is now heavily involved in all financial aspects of the firm. If that doesn’t keep him busy enough then in his spare time he likes to get out on the golf course or get down to the Emirates Stadium to watch his beloved Arsenal.
