The death of Eilidh Cairns

A high profile inquest into the death of Eilidh Cairns has just given a verdict of accidental death at Westminster Coroners' court. She was a 30 year old cyclist, killed last year when she was run over by a lorry. The inquest heard that the driver would have spotted her if his mirror had been adjusted correctly.

The ruling has been a bitter disappointment to Eilidh’s family, who said “nobody is doing anything to stop this needless slaughter”, as well as the many cyclists hoping that the tragedy would be a catalyst to improve the safety measures required of HGV drivers.
