More children going into care

The Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service have reported that in the last quarter of 2009, applications to have children formally taken into the care of local authorities was up 21% on the same figures in 2008. This clearly shows a change in the attitude of social work and legal departments at local councils up and down the land. It is sad that it took a case as distressing as baby Peter's to force local authorities to take parental neglect and cruelty seriously. Let's hope that Baby P's legacy will result in the plight of children in similar circumstances being recognised and their lives saved, as opposed to them being ignored by those who we pay to protect them.
