Cycling helmets petition

A couple of weeks ago, myself, a number of colleagues and thousands of others concerned for the wellbeing of cyclists petitioned to change the law to make wearing a helmet whilst cycling compulsory. In response, the Government has implemented a 'review of effectiveness' to assess whether the changes should be made. Common sense tells us that cycling helmets reduce the danger of serious head injuries so should be actively encouraged. However, the Government suspects that making helmets compulsory may discourage people from cycling and want to investigate this before they will change the law.

This review will examine cycling accidents in depth - it will be interesting to see the statistics that come out of it.
