2010 - My best year ever!

As part of any plan it is important to think about what can go wrong. For me that means thinking about an early death, or maybe even worse a serious physical or mental illness, and how my children would manage without me. They are now aged 20 and 21 – is it time to make them executors of my will? Are they old enough to inherit without any restrictions? After the inheritance tax will there be enough to see them through their university education? How will the inheritance tax be paid – will the family home have to be sold? And in the worst case scenario will they be brave enough to switch off the machines and let me die earlier rather than later? Will they agree to my organs being donated?
Sobering thoughts.
However all we can do is do the best we can and so one of my resolutions for 2010 is to review my will and write new lasting powers of attorney so that my children can be in no doubt of my wishes. I am sure that if they are clear about what I would have wanted it will all be much easier for them. I think that is the best I can do.
With all this in place I can look forward to this rain stopping and for spring to arrive.
