Human Rights and Public Law

Bolt Burdon Kemp’s human rights department takes on a wide range of cases against public bodies. We are committed to and thrive on challenging injustice, inequality and discrimination that individuals may be suffering or have suffered at the hands of the state.

Human rights form the very fabric of our society and it is imperative that public bodies respect the human rights of the individual. We pursue claims for declarations of incompatibility, declarations that there has been or there is a breach of human rights and compensation. At Bolt Burdon Kemp we are committed to assisting clients to obtain access to justice and to helping to protect the rights of the individual. It is often the most vulnerable members of society that require the protection of the Human Rights Act.

Bolt Burdon Kemp will also assist individuals or organisations to challenge decisions, failures or practises of public bodies. Such cases include the refusal to provide healthcare treatment, or the withdrawal of social services provision. Public bodies must act only within the extent of their powers as the law provides; at times a public body may act beyond its powers, and if that happens then Bolt Burdon Kemp can help.
