Shane Starrenburg
"Hi my name is Shane, and I am going to be a marathon runner" - this has been my mantra throughout the past year.
If only the time and training ahead of me could be as quick and painless as saying those words. Unfortunately it isn't. Having been presented with the idea of running a marathon back in January, my initial thoughts were of course I can't do this... Run for 26.2 miles, you have got to be kidding. Is there going to be massive keg of beer or lifetime supply of gin and tonic waiting at the end of this 26.2 mile rainbow? Unfortunately not... and I soon found out that I would have to be giving up these little trifles to be able to run the 26.2 miles. However the chance to run for such a great cause like NSPCC won me over and so I started my training...
So nine months in and three months to go.... How am I feeling? Surprisingly motivated and in less pain then I anticipated at the start. We have had numerous training and information sessions, even participating in the Regents Park 10km and Bristol Half Marathon races, all which is helping the prospect of reaching the 26.2 mile finish line a certainty.
Please donate to the NSPCC to help us reach our goal of raising £15,000!!!
