Accidents whilst working abroad
If you have been involved in an accident whilst working abroad then you may be able to claim compensation either in the UK or in the country where the accident occurred.
It is often assumed by many UK workers that when they are sent abroad to work by their employer they will be covered by insurance, and if they need to bring a personal injury claim, that claim can be brought against their employer. Unfortunately this is not always the case, and many travel insurance policies are only designed to cover accidents that happen on holiday and not during employment.
The contract of employment is an important document in these types of cases and specialist legal advice is required.
Even though an accident may occur whilst working abroad, it may be that the claim can be brought in the UK if it can be shown that there is a UK based employer against whom an action can be brought. The time limit for bringing a compensation claim in the UK is 3 years from the date of the accident, however in some countries it can be as little as 1 year.
